Bug Description

See http://builder.ubuntuwire.qeuni.net:9998/package/petsc. It built on 2008/02/25, but doesn't any more. It needs a rebuild to we can migrate to the new suitesparse, so is fairly high priority.

The issue is the following change in gcc-4.2 4.2.3-2ubuntu2:

  * Update PR other/28322, ignore only unknown -W* options.

Removing -Wno-long-double from the C(XX)FLAGS generator fixes it. It seems that any unknown -W* will cause it to fail identically.

I've dropped -Wno-long-double from the version in my PPA, which makes it work. That's the best solution at the moment, I suspect.

This bug was fixed in the package petsc - 2.3.3-6ubuntu1

---------------
petsc (2.3.3-6ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * Sync from Debian unstable.
    - Now builds with gfortran. (LP: #201962)
  * Drop spooles support, as we don't have it in Hardy.
  * Don't attempt to use -Wno-long-double, as that makes some of configure
    FTBFS for no particularly good reason. (LP: #199256)
  * Mangle Maintainer field.

petsc (2.3.3-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * Rebuild for unstable.

petsc (2.3.3-5) experimental; urgency=low

  * Rebuild against, and depend on, new suitesparse with proper shared
    library versioning.

petsc (2.3.3-4) experimental; urgency=low

  * Build-depends on gfortran-transitioned BLAS, LAPACK and suitesparse
    (closes: #463825).
  * Adds spooles support (closes: #464723).
