Bug Description

Binary package hint: mythtv

I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy, I now can not play highDef through MythTv. I just get a black screen. I can not escape from it, but Have to kill the process in a terminal to get out of it. I am able to watch them in vlc, but it doesn't play as smooth as it did in Hardy.

Hello,

please attach your mythfrontend logs. If you're running mythbuntu, you can find them in /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log. Otherwise, please run mythfrontend -l mylogfile.log, try to play a video and attach mylogfile.log to this bug report.

Thanks!

This bug was fixed in the package mythtv - 0.21.0~fixes16259-0ubuntu1

---------------
mythtv (0.21.0~fixes16259-0ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * New upstream checkout.
  * debian/control:
    - Add libfftw3-dev to build depends for FFT support.
    - Add conflicts/replaces for mythappearance. (LP: #195421)
  * debian/rules:
    - Replace with pentium3 tuning to attempt to get more MMX
      optimizations.
      Should (hopefully) fix (LP: #195306).
    - Add libfftw3 support (undocumented in configure)

I'm starting to think this may be an issue with your video driver or similar. What video card are you on? Can you play videos in HD with other apps?

I am using an Nvidia 5500 and I can play HD in vlc with no problems but from myth, I just get a black screen and then I have to xkill it to get out of it. Also I can play low def through mythtv. And It was working completely perfect in 7.10.

What video outputs have you tried? The "final" release of 0.21 greatly changes
those options...

I've tried a couple, but I don't know off the top of my head. But all of them ended in the same way as above.

Can you please try running mythfrontend -v playback? Also, please try a video display profile without xvmc and/or deinterlacing to see if that improves things.

This should be fixed with the 2.6.24-17 kernel. It has scheduling improvements.
