On the buttom of the vlc-window there are 3 displays for the time, the speed of the play back and for the filename in this order of appearance.
The displays for the time and the speed are incomplete and can not be changed in their range. The time-display should be something like "0:02:30 / 0:05:15" but looks like this "0:02:30 / 0:05:" an the display for the speed should look like "x1.00" but is cut off at the half of the last integer.

Asking "Synaptic" for "vlc" i get the output, that the the following packages are installed together with those allready mentioned above:
vlc-nox

mozilla-plugin-vlc
libvlc0
