Thank you for your bug report, why do you think we should update to this version? Focal is feature frozen now and new poppler versions come with soname changes which makes they require full transitions to their rdepends so it's not trivial update

Poppler 0.86.1 has nice fixes in the glib backend, which is used by Evince, as it is has this MR

The poppler update is tricky, as usual they bumped the soname and did some code changes that impact other projects. Testing in a ppa e.g libreoffice fails to build, and looks like upstream didn't fix that yet. Same of e.g extractpdfmark

We might look at backporting specific fixes, keeping away from API changes for this cycle
