Bug Description

Binary package hint: tuxpaint

There are no easy way to change tuxpaint settings - I can't find the way how to change tuxpaint configuration (e.g. make it run in fullscreen), even when I install tuxpaint-config package :(

Best solution would be to include one more button in tuxpaint, named "Settings" or "Configuration" - this button should be visible only when tuxpaint-config program is installed.

Quick solution would be to add tuxpaint-config menu launcher (/usr/share/applications/tuxpaint-config.desktop file) into Education menu category.

The tuxpaint .desktop file is installed by the makefile for KDE and not for Gnome, can anyone confirm that in KDE it works fine? it should be under settings

Is this the .desktop file for tuxpaint or tuxpaint-config?

Thanks for helping improve Ubuntu!

I only had a fast look at the debdiff so I might be wrong but it seems to me that adding a debian/install file (or a cp in debian/rules) would be enough to install the desktop file, and that would make the delta a lot smaller (as neither the patch nor quilt would be needed).

Also, if the menu entry hasn't already an icon, it would be nice to add one.

I can't just install or cp because the .desktop file as it is isn't useful, my first try was to do it that way, but it doesn't work, so i need to change the .desktop file in some way and then i used quilt and i find also i think it's not the best to leave the Makefile as it was, because it's a modified Makefile for KDE ignoring Gnome.

About the icon, i will try to add it later today.

I was thinking about other bug, this one actually HAS an icon and is also installed with the changes i made to the Makefile.

Right, there's any icon, but my first comment still applies. For such a little change in the .desktop file it would be enough to just modify it (without adding a patch system, which isn't recommended if there isn't already one), and I think dh_install (or cp in debian/rules) is enough to install the icon and .desktop file.

Don't give it much importance though, those are just my five cent. I'm not a MOTU (yet) and perhaps you'll find a sponsors who likes it like it's now ;).

"Just modifiy" the files outside debian/ is not the best practice, it's cleaner/better to use patch systems so it's easier for other people to revert/apply the changes. But thanks for the comments :D

I've unsubscribed this bug from ubuntu-universe-sponsors in support of the comments above. Although patch systems are nice, it is never correct to have both a patch system and other patches in the diff.gz. Please adjust your patches to have the package only apply changes in debian/patches or in the diff.gz. Further, when selecting between these options, please follow the existing usage of the package for minimal differences.
