I had the same problem....and upon further investigation I found that dragging and icon onto the awn trash icon places the file in ~/.Trash while right clicking on a file in nautilus and selecting "move to trash" place the file in ~/.local/share/Trash/files.
The following solution worked for me: I deleted the directory ~/.local.share/Trash/files and made a symlink with the same name pointing to ~/.Trash
