What I've further noticed with today's daily build (29-01). When I do F6 and choose "noapic", "acpi=off" and "nomodeset", it actually shows the splash screen instead of going to blank (although the splash screen looks ugly that way). Then, at the end of the splash screen just before going to the KDE splash screen, one line of text appears on the *buntu splash screen:
"Stopping System V Compatibility"
and then turns to blank again.
