I was able to boot this image http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20110423/natty-desktop-amd64.iso
from a USB drive on ASUS G51JX-A1 laptop. Here are the steps:

1) Download the ISO image: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20110423/natty-desktop-amd64.iso
2) Prepare a USB Flash drive for use with Start Up Disk Creator (format it or simply delete unwanted stuff)
3) Run Start Up Disk Creator as a super user
  sudo usb-created-gtk
4) Before pushing Make Startup Disk button make sure to enable "Stored in reserved extra space" option. This option will only be available if you run Start Up Disk Creator as a super user
5) Make the startup disk
6) Reboot from the created USB drive
7) IMPORTANT: when Ubuntu boots, hit any key (SPACE BAR for example), select the desired language
8) Hit F6 and select "nomodeset" option, then hit ESC key
9) Chose Try Ubuntu and hit ENTER key
10) When Ubuntu boots in low-resolution GTK mode, open System->Ubuntu Software Center
11) In the Ubuntu Software Center search for "nvidia" and chose NVidia binary X.Org Driver (version 185)
12) Install the driver
13) Reboot, repeat steps 7), 8), 9)
14) Ubuntu boots from the USB Flash drive in the hi-resolution Unity mode.

When Ubuntu is released on Apr 28 I will try the steps above and if Ubuntu boots in the hi-resolution Unity mode I'll try to install it on ASUS G51JX-A1 laptop and report back.
