Same problem with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. i found this workaround:
1) Insert USB connector 2) Issue this command (not as sudo, just as regular user) $ udisks --mount /dev/sr005e3:0701
To dismount/eject, simply unplug the drive. I am also asking Canonical support to validate this/provide another workaround.
The above command can then be set as a shortcut. Not ideal, but it works.
