Ok - great.
I upgraded to TB 3.0.4. (via TB's menu Help > Check for updates)
Hyperlinks work.
Lightning not.
So I reinstalled the lightning add-on from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2313/
And now everything is back on track.
