As workaround, since no one want to remove the bad patch, I have found that GTK+/Gnome Remote Desktop Client (GRDC) is great replacement for tsclient and vnc client/server. With GRDC I have not ran into any issues with keys with VNC or RDC and it even as way more features. Karmic as updated grdc package but it is really old in Jaunty. You can get the latest deb for following:
