It seems I also suffer bug #434042, even the bug is expired, one of the workarounds worked!
Related to the current bug, I can say 5.1 works correctly for me and I'm not hearing any distortion.

Funny fact: The bug has been fixed for me 1 year and 1 day after my initial report comment #2
