hehehe...well i am no stranger to this bug tracker :) i have a few patches (i think around 5+) in the ubuntu system although probably not in the latest versions any more. in most cases my debdiff leads to the final patch.
I try to help every now and then. first off, it does not make sense that some people are saying NO_SIMD fixes it and some saying it doesn't...that screamed at me. that's where i stepped in and tried to make a scientific experiment for it. either they were not doing it correctly, or it was another bug. in this case, they were not testing it correctly.
plus, it takes a very long time sometimes for the upstream developers to respond to things. in that case, ubuntu often does backports or patches. i am hoping they will patch this while we wait for the developers to fix the actual SIMD code (IMO it's not critical, but I don't really know why there is SIMD code in here to begin with).
