Thanks for the tip. Although I disagree about "KDE being more evolute than GNOME" which is just a plain opinion, I shall give Kubuntu a try for sure because I'm TIRED of waiting. I bought a brand new system a year ago for a HTPC and couldn't get 5.1 sound from it yet. I was excited to try the new 10.04 and I've been WAAAYYYY disapointed to see that this stupid bug is still there. (Stupid because I strongly believe it is not taken seriously enough)
This may not be the right place to ask but has ANYBODY been able to get clean 5.1 on stock ubuntu (pulseaudio)? Somebody previously said the bug was related to specific hardware but I haven't heard anybody reporting a working 5.1 config on this as of yet...
