"standby" as in "sleep" or "suspend"
exact model: Dell Inspiron 1012 (Dell Inspiron mini 10)

to reproduce:
* close the lid / choose suspend from power menu
* laptop suspends, power led starts slowly pulsing (ok)
* open the lid / press power button
* HDD starts spinning (ok)
* power LED goes from slowly pulsing into steady glow (ok)
* screen remains blank (not ok)

Only "solution" is holding the power button to force a power cut and then srarting up.
