I am confirming that booting with DVI-D cable attached fails as well with nouveau.
Plymouth splash stays on the screen and X does not seem to be able to take over the screens.

If splash is removed from commandline then X is able to start with two outputs (LVDS/DVI-D)

I am attaching my Xorg log files in case it might be helpful to diagnose that.
