I set the timeout on /misc to a shorter value and was able to reproduce this more quickly:

    /misc /etc/auto.misc --timeout=60

...the /git symlink is unneeded as well. It reproduces just fine if I save a file to /misc/salusa/scratch (a scratch export that I use for testing).
