Having issues with my Sony Vaio VPCM11M1E tried the following with no joys

1. tried removing "splash" from kernel line - shutdown hangs on wallpaper
2. "splash" and "quiet" from kernel line - shutdown hangs on wallpaper
3. added "acpi=off" and removed "splash" and "quiet" from kernel line - system doesnt boot
4. added "acpi=ht" and removed "splash" and "quiet" from kernel line - system boots but doesnt shutdown
5. added "pci=noacpi" and removed "splash" and "quiet" from kernel line - system doesnt boot
6. added "acpi=noirq" and removed "splash" and "quiet" from kernel line - system doesnt boot
7. added "pnpacpi=off" and removed "splash" and "quiet" from kernel line - shutdown hangs on wallpaper
8. added "noapic" and removed "splash" and "quiet" from kernel line - shutdown hangs on wallpaper
9. added "nolapic" and removed "splash" and "quiet" from kernel line - shutdown hangs on wallpaper
