I am affected by this bug also.

The conditions are the same: with no external VGA connected, everything works fine -- when we connect and use it on the "right-of LVDS1" (xrandr language) the problem happens from time to time. Sometimes my machine switches to console and shows the oops, sometimes it reboots and some other times the screen gets messy and blinking (possibly because the video mode didn't switch and the kernel tried to print the textual info anyway). In any circumstances the system halts (no alt-sysrq or network response).

Some other thing to add -- I'm still investigating this -- it seems to be an issue only if you are running on 64bits. I'll test with 32bits and get back here.

Anyway this bug seems to be very machine specific. Probably it affects only the i915 intel video driver (can someone please confirm if this happens with another card / driver?) and/or with the HP Pavilion -- is it possibly caused by a hardware configuration or bios version/bug?

These are the environment/conditions that I have and if someone is affected by this bug, please can you comment on these variables?

Anyway there seems to be a bug related to this one -- see bug #621371

Thanks,
Luiz.
