Probably not really needed, but I can confirm this the same problem (upgrade from Kubuntu 10.10 to 11.04, /proc/acpi/thermal_zone is missing, fan spins at high speed, and CPU still gets throttled (/sys/devices/system/cpu0/thermal_throttle/core_throttle_count shows not 0) due to overheating).

Fan control works somehow.
/proc/acpi/thermal_zone makes it difficult to check the temperature.
Seems CPUs are kept busy too much somehow since the upgrade.

echo 931000 > /sys/devices/ system/ cpu/cpu0/ cpufreq/ cpuinfo_ max_freq
for all CPUs (I got 8).
That means: thermal_ zone makes it difficult to check the temperature.
