I don't think it's related to #12.

As I had some corrupted files on an encrypted file system, I moved the encrypted files to an unencrypted folder (to figure out which files were corrupted). I had moved about 360GB (of 380GB) media files when it hung.

So I think my problem is in some way related to accessing files (not sure if the encryption has any relevance).
