I have exactly the same symptoms: I type something, nothing appears, I move the mouse and the text is there. Also the system monitor stops updating, I move the mouse or press a key it updates again. This every second or so.

Using 2.6.32 fixes this for me. Also suspend and hybernate only work with the older kernel.

I thought it has something to do with Broadcom's wl driver. Using the b43 open source driver seemed to help. But I am not totally sure about this.
