I have the same bug on a fresh Ubuntu 10.10 install (2.6.35-22-generic kernel) on a Lenovo Thinkpad T61p. When pressing the mute (either to mute/unmute) button there is a loud popping noise. This happens only when resumed after suspending. If I reboot, there is no such popping noise (until a suspend/resume cycle).
