Confirmed an issue only from 2.6.31 onward (tested on 2.6.31/32/34). Confirmed working on 2.6.29/30.

Memtest came back fine after 13 passes, so it's not a hardware issue, however if I run the same command from a VM of Lucid (running on the same hardware), the problem goes away.

I believe this is an issue of the kernel interacting with my specific hardware.
