This is just to provide some more information on the problem. Hope it helps to resolve it.

I have two thinkpad laptops: w510 and t500.

On w510, lucid 64 bit was installed freshly. On t500, it was upgraded to lucid 32 bit from karmic. The file system is ext4 on w510, and ext3 on t500. T500 works just fine with PAE kernel while w510 occasionally frozen with the same problem described by other users.
