Comment 39 for bug 573984

When the GRUB menu loaded, I hit e to edit the top entry, and added acpi_osi= after quiet splash - just like you said. The first tile I tried that, it was the trash applet that crashed. the second time - the apps I listed, and the third - nothing. I don't know why it has that kind of impact on the panel applets, but I'm also not concerned over it.
Bottom line, it didn't work. Are there other configurations I should be trying out?
I tried acpi-osi=linux, but that had no effect what so ever.
Might there be something in the BIOS itself I should look for?
