I'm experiencing the exact same problems on Ubuntu 11.04. After a reboot the mouse works fine on the gdm login screen. When I login the mouse works until I star a program. After that the left mouse button stops working. I have to do a service gdm restart and log back in to get it working again. After the gdm restart it all works fine. I can reproduce this easily as this happens on every reboot.

The machine I'm running it on is an HP 6820s laptop.
