The same problem is happening here after upgrading to Lucid. Computer is a ThinkPad R50e.
2.6.32-21 and 2.6.32-22 (today's update) won't boot, neither generic, nor 386.

After splash, just when gdm should start up, screen turns black and there seems to be no activity whatsoever, no key combinations working either.

I installed today's build of the mainline kernel (2.6.34-999.201005051005) and it boots fine, also the previous 2.6.31 kernels do.

I noticed that when booting a kernel that works, the screen resolution is set to the maximum before the splashscreen is displayed whereas with the 2.6.32 kernels it remains unchanged.
