2.6.37-rc3 (ubuntu 10.10 this time)

-download from kernel.org (, tar xjf etc.)
-make clean distclean mrproper
-make menuconfig (and just exit)
-make
-make modules_install
-make firmware_install
-make install
-update-initramfs -c -k 2.6.37-rc3
(-remove nomodeset)
-update-grub
-reboot

works ok for me.

unity still looks funny -> UNUSABLE (see attachment)
