Looking at the delta between the two kernels you are running we do appear to have turned on a feature which gives access to the machine check information. That seems to bring a new thermal probe mechanism online. That may account for the change in information. Have you tried stressing the machine to 1) see if that sensors value increases and 2) if that in turn triggers the fans?
