This isn't wrong "per se" (by itself/by definition). My cheap notebook (which has a discrete graphics card!) can stand only on passive cooling for several minutes, in quite warm environment - I live in Belém, Brazil ;-)

If you have working temperature sensors it's safe to work with temperatures below 80ºC (and even a bit higher), but of course I won't recommend waiting this much ;-)
The fan in my notebook starts (with very slow speed) around 60ºC.

No, no, I just thought that you could be using dual boot (or another ubuntu entry without the parameter, e.g. the failsafe option).
