I have had problems with a specific package (gnome-do) launching and pegging
the CPU at 100%, causing the temperature to run away. I have to be careful
to make sure that when this program launches that it settles down right
away. Power save function will often prevent overheating when this happens
but the program is still consuming 100% of the CPU and that is the real
issue in my case.

Perhaps you have a similar situation? Check your System > Preferences >
System Monitor and see if a program is using an unusual amount of the CPU.
If so kill it and relaunch it if possible.
