I have a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5955 which required the 'acpi_osi="Linux"' text as part of the kernel boot parameters in menu.lst in 9.04 to make the fan work. I tacked this verbage onto the kernel boot parameters in 9.10 but it caused the cooling fan to remain off until the temp hit 130 F, then it would kick on to cool the unit down to 109. This cycle would repeat about every 10 minutes with the CPU idling around 3%. Your patched kernel keeps the cooling fan running constantly on a low level. Many thanks.
