Also experiencing this problem on a fresh karmic install and asus EEEPC 1101HA
Installed linux-backports-modules-wireless-karmic-generic, getting much better speeds and haven't had a noticeable disconnect for about 15minutes (was getting them every 2min or so before)

Still using the stock Network Manager and my wlan0 power management is on.
