Sill a problem in Kubuntu 64 9.10 with 2.6.31-17-generic on an Asus A8V motherboard (VT82C586A IDE controller chip-set)

Does anyone know whether this is EVER going to be fixed by the Kernel developers, after all it is hardly trivial! I'm having a problem with a Brand New Pioneer DVR-A18L Series drive. A work college with same VT8x chip-set has exactly the same problems with his two Pioneer IDE DVD drives (they work under Windows)

Bug is easy to reproduce, burn a DVD with K3B, get it to verify the DVD. DVD Ejects but when reloaded, nothing is displayed.

Problem does not seem to be apparent using an LG SATA drive (SATA chipset VT8251) although I do have pci=nomsi kernel parameter loaded. http://mylinuxramblings.wordpress.com/2010/02/04/linux-hell-via-southbridge-vt8251-sata-ii-controller/
