same problem here with ubuntu 12.04.
just the note "dropping to a shell" then busybox ctrl+d boot gets finished fine.

setup:
intel core i3 onboard 2 sata drives raid1->lvm2
pci promise ide controller 4 pata drives raid5->lvm2
