I have the same problem when copying files larger than 50-100 MB to any mass storage device on the USB interface. The transfer goes normally until the first ~100 MB are transfered and then rapidly the sped decreases to ~800 KB/s (on my 2GB MemoryStick inserted in my Sony PSP it starts at ~7 MB/s). The computer is Toshiba Satellite M45-S331 running Ubuntu 8.04. I believe there are other people experiencing the same problem, but since it's not a crash and the system does not offer to report a bug automatically, few regular users will report it at all.
