WIth the Lucid release, there are installed both:
~$ ls /usr/sbin/update-grub*
/usr/sbin/update-grub /usr/sbin/update-grub2

Added lines in /etc/grub.d/40_custom are NOT incorporated into /boot/grub/grub.cfg with usage of
$ sudo update-grub

However there is success if there is used
$ sudo update-grub2
the desired lines are added.
