I've put together a little script that should be placed under:
/etc/grub.d
Since I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of corner cases, I encourage you to try it and:
1) Report success/failure. 2) Send patches based on it !
You can run this by simply instantianting it:
sh /etc/grub.d/50_cleanup
It's quite ubuntu/debian specific, but hey, works for me ;)
