I tried running sudo update-grub and sudo dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic to no avail. menu.lst looks good, but the grub menu at boot time is still the old menu.
I am curious as to where menu.lst is being read from or cached. In my experience, if menu.lst was changed, it would show on the next reboot with no other steps required.
