I've just had the same problem when going to 10.04beta1, it was a fresh install but I put a backup copy of my working 9.04 /home user account in-place BEFORE doing the fresh install of 10.04b1

/tmp directory is all correctly set.

jka@jka-1004beta1:~$ ls -ltrad /tmp
drwxrwxrwt 26 root root 4096 2010-03-20 11:03 /tmp
