  I see the same problem on my machine...

s-ubuntu:~$ nm-applet

** (nm-applet:9028): WARNING **: No connections defined

This happens irrespective of what I have in my interfaces file... I am running the 8.10 version of Ubuntu Desktop on a Thinkpad T21.
