I have this bug and also have I believe a work around. The work-around results from trying to investigate a Rhythmbox bug:

Rhythmbox Unable to Play Music from daap share that requires password

I was going to report the Banshee bug, but this bug already seems to cover it. My details are:

Clean install of Ubuntu 10.04.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release: 10.0

Two NAS boxes on network:

 1) NAS1 - Dlink DNS-323, firmware 1.08

 2) WD1 - Western Digitial MyBook World Edition - firmware 01.01.16 with MioNet 4.1.1.9

Both have built in daap (itunes) servers. Both of these servers and their music files can be seen and played under Windows Vista and Windows 7 using either itunes or songbird (with the daap plugin). The NAS1 daap server is setup so that it requires a password to access the server. Both itunes and songbird prompt for this password. WD1 does not require a password.

I installed the Banshee music player. Initially this could not see either NAS1 or WD1.

After a google search I edited the file: /etc/samba/smb.conf

and adding in the [global] section after the line "server string = %h server (Samba, Ubuntu)"

  client ntlmv2 auth = no

Now Banshee was able see and connect to both WD1 and the DNS-323 daap server, it prompted for the password when connecting to NAS1. I was able to play music from both WD1 and NAS1.
