Bug Description

Follow-up on Bug #728923, as #24 suggested report new one here.
My answer #22 was true, but since update a few minutes ago to
linux-image-2.6.38-10-generic 2.6.38-10.46
after reboot to desktop screen went black twice, no shortcuts helped, hard reset necessary.
sysolg says again:
Jul 13 17:09:41 kernel: [ 146.970019] radeon 0000:01:00.0: GPU lockup CP stall for more than 10020msec

Need to mention pc wasn't rebooted since 10 days, it was always suspended and resumed fine.

List of fixed Bugs is there. Bug #802464

no lockup after reboot, uptime 3 days. Will further monitor, but if anyone may confirm that it doesn't lockup I'll suggest to mark it as fixed. Thanks.

Revert #5, seems it isn't over yet. Uptime 27d 19h. Did nothing spectacular, just firefox is open. Screen turnes off for about 3 sec. then comes back. No logout yet and able to write this here. Pretty long time since last GPU stall, odd since there're no hints what exactly triggers it.

A similar problem happens on my machine regularly, although it doesn't happen at boot time.

It seems to have something to do with the launcher, when I move the mouse over and icon on the the launcher occasionally the screen goes blank for 30 seconds, then comes back, screen updates, then goes blank away again and repeats for a while. Its not every time I use the launcher just sometimes. Maybe once a day.

If I try early enough I can get to a console and reboot the machine, otherwise it just completely locks up after a while.

I've attached a comment to this bug as it seems very similar, but can create a new one if required.

I have a dual monitor setup, both with the resolution of both monitors set to 1920x1080.

I did try out the kernel 2.6.39 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.39-rc4-natty/

That seemed to fix this problem, but did hang in other ways although less frequently.

The problem happened again this morning.

Am now running the kernel 2.6.38-11-generic #50-Ubuntu

This time the screen would go black when I put the mouse over the launcher, but if I moved the mouse away while screen was black everything would recover ok. However as soon as I put the mouse over the launcher or the global menu, the screen would lockup again. Eventually the whole system locked up and couldn't get to the command line via Ctr-Alt-F1.

There is another trace that happened after the GPU lockup that seemed to be related to the system lockup.
