This is an issue for me as well. The driver was included in Maverick.

There is a quite simple workaround. You need to insmod 3w-sas.ko just after installation starts. To to this:
1. Download linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic package from http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic
2. Extract 3w-sas.ko from the linux image package
3. Download ubuntu server 11.04 64-bit
4. Use, for example, IsoMaster tool to add 3w-sas.ko file to ubuntu iso image so it still be bootable.
5. Start installation process, but stop as soon as you see the language selection screen.
6. Switch to console: Ctrl+Alt+F2
7. Mount cd-rom: "mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt" or something like that.
8. Create some folder, like /3ware, and copy the driver to it.
9. Unmount cdrom - won't be needed anymore.
10. insmod 3w-sas.ko
11. Continue your installation like there was no bug at all :)

Another approach is to download the "3w-sas.ko" file after configuring the network.

Still present in oneiric and also precise. Please add 3w-sas.ko to the install media. This should be an easy fix
