Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Release: Intrepid Alpha 6 i386 live CD (no updates)
Package (suspected): network-manager 0.7~~svn20080908t183521+eni0
Hardware: Compaq 6720s Centrino Core2Duo laptop and Gateway MX6932b Centrino Core Duo laptop. Both using Intel 3945ABG wifi chips.
Router: Linksys WRT54GS

Expected: My WPA network to be seen or at least able to connect to

Actual: My WPA network is not listed and cannot force it to connect. Neighboring WEP networks seen are fine.

Both these laptops work fine in Hardy our of the box. Using the Intrepid live CD neither can see my WPA encrypted network but can see neighboring WEP encrypted networks fine. When forcing via. "Connect to Other Wireless Network..." it repeatedly tries to connect and then asks me for the WPA password. Never actually full connecting.

Edit:
The problem is the EU channels are not enabled by default. They have to be enabled with the following in /etc/modprobe.d/options:

options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=EU

Bug summary changed appropriately.

Is there any way this option can be set (some kind of country selection option?) in a user friendly way upon Desktop CD boot?

Which channel does your network use?

I used channel 13 (that worked in hardy) but it seams to be that it doesn't work in intrepid, because it is a passive channel.
Try 'iwlist channel' and look if at least your channel is visible for your card.
After changing the router to a visible channel it worked without a problem.

I'm living in the EU (not US where it is forbidden), so there are a lot of acces points on those channels. Is there a way to make it an active channel? I searched for it but can't find it.

I found, finally. I had to add to /etc/modprobe.d/options:

options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=EU

And I can connect, jippie.

I still consider it as a bug. this option should be enabled by default for all eu-country locale settings.

hendrikwout is correct.

My router is on channel 13 (I'm in the UK). My neighbours use most other channels in this area.

Adding those options to modprobe fixes the problem.

Why is this bug marked as incomplete? All the information needed seems to be there....

Setting to confirmed for now. I'm not sure that the bug should be against NM though
