Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Sometimes, when the screensaver is active, hitting a key causes xorg to lock up. I can still log in; the system itself isn't hung. Just xorg is hung. I see the following in the logs:

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Thank you for the updated information. The end of your Xorg.0.log shows that the xserver is crashing. For that we would need a back trace in order to figure out what causes it. Take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for how to do that. It's probably easiest with apport. That may generate a new bug report, but that's okay. Just link to it from here.

I should mention that the problem is still there; I'm just not seeing anything interesting (that my inexpert eye can find) in xorg.0.log. Syslog stil lshows the kernel warning that my screensaver is chewing things up

In order to keep the bug reports concise and focused on the issue that is problematic, I think it would be best if you file a new bug report using the ubuntu-bug command. Would you mind doing that? That way the crashes don't disturb the picture and we get fresh logs from the newest packages.

Run `ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-intel` right after the problem happens (or next time you log in if the system isn't responsive). Please include the relevant log as attachments instead of pasting them directly into the bug description or comments. It is possible that the bug you are experiencing is a GPU lockup (freeze). The mouse pointer would then usually continue to move. See https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-freeze-test for what kind of information we would like you to grab in that case.
