Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Update to 2.6.32-10 screen freezes shortly after desktop displays.
2.6.32-9 has been running O.K.

ssh in from another pc, got ubuntu-bug xorg, Xorg.0.log, .xsession-errors which will attach.

Anything else? I can try to set up a batch buffer dump which is a bit complex for me, but I've done it before.

Thanks, Jerry

Here's version that does NOT work:

Linux version 2.6.32-10-generic (buildd@palmer) (gcc version 4.4.3 20100105 (prerelease) (Ubuntu 4.4.2-8ubuntu2) ) #14-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 7 17:38:40 UTC 2010

Here's version that DOES work:

Linux version 2.6.32-9-generic (buildd@rothera) (gcc version 4.4.2 (Ubuntu 4.4.2-5ubuntu1) ) #13-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 17 17:02:51 UTC 2009

Here's the video driver from Xorg.0.log:

0.403776] (II) Module ati: vendor="X.Org Foundation" compiled for 1.7.3.902, module version = 6.12.99

Anything else? I could try nomodeset or whatever?

"nomodeset" and driver "vesa" able to run with 2.6.32-10. Omit either one and screen freezes shortly.

This should be fixed with a fully updated lucid, from your logs it looks like you got hit with the move to alternatives in xserver deleting your libdri.so/libglx.so but that was fixed about a week ago. You can verify the packaging problem is fixed by doing a ls /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/lib{glx,dri}.so and they should exist, if not running sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core will fix it. It should be safe to remove nomodeset and go back to using the ati driver now, but please reopen the bug if that is not the case.
