Bug Description

I could use my apple magic mouse properly, thanks to the multitouch-kernel-source package from the repository:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/chasedouglas/multitouch/ubuntu

After the regular update a few days ago, my mouse stopped working properly. The cursor moves to any random point on the screen when I move the mouse.

Thank you for your help in resolving this problem.

I have installed the multitouch-kernel package and it worke well for me until May-25.
On 25-May I have used the magic mouse normally, but today it isn't working well and the mouse seems to be recognized as a "touchpad" and I can move the cursor by touching the surface only. Yesterday everything was right, the mouse worke properly and the multitouch surface worked like the "mouse wheel".

On 25-May, the following lines din't appear on my syslog file:

May 26 06:32:04 e4300 kernel: [ 68.209883] Bluetooth: HIDP (Human Interface Emulation) ver 1.2~multitouch
May 26 06:37:25 e4300 kernel: [ 32.909262] Bluetooth: HIDP (Human Interface Emulation) ver 1.2~multitouch

May 26 07:22:02 e4300 kernel: [ 143.699573] Bluetooth: HIDP (Human Interface Emulation) ver 1.2~multitouch

And below are the lines that I think are related to magicmouse (25 and 26 - May):

First, the magicmouse drivers are unsupported in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

That said, this is likely an Xorg evdev module issue. Something may be misconfigured, or there may be a bug.

I realized that the multitouch xorg-edgers ppa includes a version of xserver-xorg-input-evdev that probably would cause this to occur. The package is old and the changes will not be brought forward in that form, so I just deleted it from the PPA altogether.

Please try downgrading to the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS version of xserver-xorg-input-evdev to see if it resolves your issue.

Thanks!

Hello Chase, you are right. After reverting back to the Lucid version of xserver-xorg-input-evdev the mouse works much better. The jittery mouse movement when you touch the surface is gone.

Rafael, what do you mean with "stopped working". This issue is about errating movements, when multitouch is activated and since multitouch is *deactivated* i'm pretty sure, that this issue is not related to you problem. I own a Magic Mouse and I run Ubuntu Natty, too. And I can't confirm your problem. Ubuntu handels the Magic Mouse quite fine, except multitouch, but this is another story.

Hi Christoph. My mouse stopped working completely. Even though it was detected by the system, it was not functional. You can see more on the issue and solution on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/814250?comments=all.
