Bug Description

Hi,
after installing the restricted modules and latest kernel (problem occured with gutsy and feisty), I got some issues with my ATI-Chip (Mobility Radeon X300) and X. (This problem occurs with an "old" config (which is bullet-proofed) and even with a new config, created by fireglcontrol or ati-config))

After changing and restarting Xserver needs to be restarted.

- 1st scenario:
1 monitor (Laptop-LCD): everything works

- 2nd scenario:
dual-head (horizontal-display chosen) and 2nd monitor powered on: X hangs, you can't kill X, you can't switch to console, everything you see is a black screen on both TFTs. You can get out of this trap if you're either rebooting the system (CTRL+ALT+DEL) or power-off this laptop.

- 3rd scenario:
Do, what you did in 2nd scenario again and after the "rescue-reboot" you need to have switch your 2nd monitor on. This will also make your system freezing, again.

--> Looks for me, like the system's going fscked up, when initializing a 2nd monitor...

Greets, owl

There has not been a lot of activity on this bug report. Have you been able to install the most recent Ubuntu and do you still have the problem?
